Minmising Both Exposure To Risk And Impact On Th Environment

History image

The Canute Group's environmental and health & safety policies are a main part of the overall business strategy.

Minimising both exposure to risk and impact on the environment are our key objectives. Of course helping all our employees build their skills so they may become qualified to take ownership of legislative compliance and demonstrate responsible business practices is also important.

Strict working procedures and a diligent risk assessment programme ensures everyone will understand the necessary precautions within their work environments. By following best practice guidelines Canute minimises risks that could potentially cause injury or ill-health.

By conserving energy resources, purchasing environmentally-friendly equipment and carefully managing waste, Canute continually works to minimise the Group's carbon footprint. We also encourage customers, suppliers and contractors to share these values. A copy of our environmental and health & safety policies are available upon request

Canute’s decision to invest in video conferencing this year coincides with a new legally binding climate change and energy saving scheme called the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC).  It covers large business and public sector organisations and it will have a significant impact on reducing UK carbon dioxide emissions.  Maximising use of audio visual and video conferencing facilities is an obvious way to reduce carbon footprint and keep travel budgets low.

The solution in Purfleet will deliver a fully functional boardroom solution offering interactive functionality from SMART, integrated HD video conferencing from Polycom together with a touch screen control system from Crestron.  Primarily the solution will be utilised to improve communication with Canute’s Western Australia offices.  Carillion will be installing a trolley based VC system in this office enabling full video communication between the sites and significant cost savings on travel budgets.  Four desktop conference licences are to be distributed internally around the UK.

David Ashley, Sales Director for Carillion, commented “We are pleased to be working with Canute in their first video conferencing project and are looking forward to a successful long term partnership.  We support their commitment to the environmental policy and are certain Canute will see benefits in terms of carbon reduction, improved communication and productivity from the installation of the video conferencing systems”.
